It is the policy of the Drayton Centre to ensure that:
All the requirements and duties imposed by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 are fully complied with in letter, practice and spirit.
- Fire risk assessment is regularly conducted to identify areas of potential risk and to give guidance to all staff, contractors and visitors (members of the public) on how to manage fire safety on a daily basis.
- Fire prevention and procedures are kept up to date and that induction training is provided for all staff and contractors on the first day of employment or as soon as is practicable that:
- Identifies special fire hazards in the workplace, the alarm system and its sound
- Informs of ‘No Smoking’ rules, good housekeeping requirements, action when the alarm sounds and how to raise the alarm
- Shows evacuation routes and fire exits, fire assembly (muster) points and the siting and operation of firefighting equipment that may be used to aid their escape
- No member of staff, contractor or visitor (member of public) should attempt to fight any fires unless previously trained to do so.
- Evacuation training drills are carried out regularly (as practical) and that one drill that involves a full evacuation of the premises and assembly at the muster point is carried out annually (or as required).
- An emergency/fire action plan is developed, maintained (updated when necessary) and communicated to all employees, contractors and visitors.
- Suitable and sufficient means of escape including fire doors, escape routes and fire exits are provided and clearly identified and kept unobstructed.
- Suitable, adequate and clear fire safety signage is maintained throughout the premises.
- Good housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the company at all times. Flammable substances are stored safely and separately. Wastepaper and packaging is stored in designated areas/bins and removed from the premises as quickly as is practicable. General waste is stored in secure bins away from the premises and disposed of as often as is practicable.
- The company smoking prohibition is maintained and strictly enforced.
- Electrical equipment including sockets, plugs, wiring and appliances are regularly inspected and tested by a competent person and defective items are reported and withdrawn from use until repaired.
- That all fire safety related equipment, devices and facilities provided on the premises for the safety of people, such as fire alarms, emergency escape lighting, fire extinguishers, signs, fire exits and fire doors are maintained in effective working order.
- That regular checks, testing, periodic servicing and maintenance to all fire safety related equipment is carried out at specified intervals and any defects are put right as quickly as possible.
The following fire evacuation procedure should be implemented in these premises.
On Hearing An Alarm or Raising the Alarm
- All persons should consider evacuating the building using the nearest available safe fire exit.
- All persons should assemble in the rear car park.
- Call the Fire Brigade using 999.
- Persons should be accounted for.
- The Fire Brigade should be met on arrival and details given.
- No persons should re-enter the building until safe to do so.
On Discovery of a Fire
- Raise the alarm by shouting FIRE FIRE FIRE and operate the nearest fire alarm call point.
- All persons should evacuate the building and assemble in the rear car park.
- Call the Fire Brigade using 999.
- Persons should be accounted for.
- The Fire Brigade should be met on arrival and details given.
- No persons should re-enter the building until safe to do so.
